Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring tool
  • Strainer
  • Martini glasses
  • Cocktail stirrer or spoon
  • Olive pick

Ingredients

  • ounces gin or vodka
  • ½ ounce dry vermouth
  • 1 ounce olive brine
  • 3 green olives
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  • Chill your martini glasses: Place your glasses in the freezer or fill them with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.
  • Prepare the shaker: Fill your cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Add the gin (or vodka), dry vermouth, and olive brine. If you like your martini extra dirty, feel free to add a little extra brine.
  • Shake: Secure the shaker lid and shake the mixture vigorously for 15-20 seconds to chill and mix everything thoroughly. The more you shake, the colder and more diluted your drink will become, so adjust based on personal preference.
  • Strain and serve: Strain the cocktail into your chilled martini glass.
  • Garnish: Drop in 2-3 green olives (or use a cocktail pick to skewer them for a decorative touch). Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use high-quality gin or vodka: The base spirit makes a huge difference in the flavor of your Dirty Martini. Choose a gin or vodka you enjoy drinking neat for the best results.
  • Chill your glass well: A well-chilled martini glass keeps your cocktail colder for longer, ensuring a refreshing experience throughout.
  • Adjust the brine: Some people love a super dirty martini, while others prefer just a hint of brine. Taste as you go and adjust the amount of olive brine to suit your taste.
  • Don’t overdo the shaking: While shaking is essential to chill the drink and mix the ingredients, too much shaking can cause the drink to become overly diluted. Aim for 15-20 seconds of shaking for a balanced result.
  • Garnish thoughtfully: The olive garnish isn't just for looks; it adds to the flavor experience. Use high-quality olives or even experiment with stuffed olives (e.g., blue cheese or garlic-stuffed) for a fun twist.
