Equipment

  • shaker
  • Cocktail glass
  • Knife
  • juicer
  • Ice

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Tequila
  • 4 z Fresh grapefruit juice
  • 1 oz salt
  • Soda water or club soda
  • Ice
  • Lime wedge
  • Grapefruit slice

Instructions

  • Prepare the Glass:
Start by preparing your glass. If you like, rim the top with a little salt. To do this, rub a lime wedge around the edge of the glass and then dip it in a plate of salt. This step adds a flavorful touch to the drink.
  • Juice the Grapefruit and Lime:
Cut your grapefruit in half and juice it. You’ll need about 4 oz of juice. Squeeze the lime as well to extract about 1 oz of juice.
  • Mix the Cocktail:
In a cocktail shaker, combine the tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and a pinch of salt. Add ice to fill the shaker halfway and secure the lid. Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds to chill and mix the ingredients.
  • Serve:
Strain the mixture into your prepared glass filled with fresh ice. Top off with a splash of soda water (optional, but it adds some fizz and lightens up the drink).
  • Garnish & Enjoy:Garnish with a lime wedge and a slice of grapefruit if desired. Take a sip, and enjoy the refreshing flavors!

Notes

  • Use Fresh Grapefruit Juice: Freshly squeezed grapefruit juice is always the best choice for the most vibrant and authentic flavor. If you use store-bought juice, try to find one with no added sugars or preservatives for the best taste.
  • Adjust the Salt: If you’re not a fan of the salty rim, skip it or use a small pinch of salt directly in the drink. Too much salt can overwhelm the cocktail, so a little goes a long way.
  • Don’t Over-Shake: When shaking the Paloma, you just want to mix and chill the ingredients. Over-shaking can dilute the drink too much, leaving you with a watered-down version.
  • Chill Your Glass: For an extra-cold Paloma, chill your glass in the freezer before serving. This keeps the drink cold for longer, especially if you’re enjoying it on a warm day.
  • Experiment with Variations: While the classic Paloma is delicious, don’t be afraid to experiment with different fruit juices (blood orange, pineapple, or even pomegranate) for a new twist on the classic cocktail.
